Church Planting (Multiplication) Movements
We are in the beginning phase of envisioning and building a Spirit filled network for those who have a heart for church planting using strategies and principles from:
- Church Multiplication Movements (*using P.O.U.C.H)
- Insider Movements
- Business as Mission
- Tentmaking and Self Support
- Missional Movement
This network will work to network with other streams from within Thailand who have a similar heart and vision although their affiliations may be different. We are already working in this focus through yearly participation in a conference held here in Thailand that focuses on promoting these strategies within the Buddhist world.
There are others who are waiting to connect with you and create relationship where you encourage one another, share best practices working in Thailand, and learn how to protect the investment you are making in the lives of growing believers and leaders God has given you.
If you are working in this type of ministry already or have a heart to begin this type of work, please contact us to begin a conversation about how partnership may be able to help you fulfill the mandate you have received.
Take a look at the sections of our site called “Why COC Thailand”? and “COC Distinctives” to learn more about our overall heart and focus.
*POUCH explained:
In the palm of the hand we drew the five letters P-O-U-C-H to remind us of the kinds of churches we see in healthy Church Planting/Multiplication Movements.
The P reminds us that healthy CPM churches engage in participative Bible study and worship, rather than passive listening to a pastor/preacher. Every member brings thanksgiving, testimonies, requests, insights, and their gifts to the meeting. The groups is facilitated by a trained leader who doesn’t have to be a trained Bible teacher or scholar. He or she simply must be willing to open their home and keep the group on track
The O recalls the mark of success for the CPM church. It is not size or wealth or style; it is obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ and His word, the Bible. Members are pointed to the Word of God when they have a question about doctrine or practice. They work together to find the answers to the questions and problems they face and work to keep each other accountable to what they know.
The U points to the fact that in healthy reproducing CPM churches, there are multiple unpaid leaders. Unpaid leaders are only realistic when the church size remains small and leadership responsibility is shared. If leaders are supported for the care and oversight of multiple groups, this is done from within the groups themselves.
The C points to the importance of keeping the church gatherings small. Cell groups should remain small enough to meet in homes. Generally 15 people in the cities and 20 in rural areas. These groups can be gathered together in some instances for fellowship together in the larger group if it is practical, possible, and doesn’t destroy the momentum of the groups.
The H represents homes, where these CPM churches meet. Meeting in homes lowers expenses, increases contextualization, and deepens discipleship. Churches may also meet in businesses, coffee shops, and other venues that don’t require the expense of rent. If a group decides to build a meeting place, it comes forth from their own funds and initiative not from the outside.
From the very beginning these groups are expected to multiply and begin again as a part of normal Christian growth and life. When a new believer comes to Christ, effort is made for a new group to begin in their home as a result. So, the church meeting is formed in the home or business of the new believer.
